Getting Started with Broadcast Monitoring in Meltwater

Last updated: June 2026  |  Applies to: Broadcast ANZ and Broadcast Global add-on subscriptions  |  Region: Australia and New Zealand

What Is Broadcast Monitoring?

Broadcast monitoring is an add-on feature in Meltwater that expands your media monitoring beyond online content to include Australian and New Zealand television and radio. It provides access to both the original audio and video content and searchable transcripts directly within Meltwater, so you can find, clip, share, and report on broadcast coverage without leaving the platform.

What you can do with Broadcast Monitoring:

  • Search and filter broadcast content from ANZ TV and radio stations in Explore
  • Filter results to specific stations or networks using Custom Categories
  • Clip broadcast content directly from the media player
  • Share clips via email or social media, or download the video and transcript
  • Tag broadcast content to organise it for reporting and analysis
  • Remove commercial advertisements from results using Ad Detection
  • Create alerts to receive notifications of new broadcast mentions
  • Add broadcast content to newsletters for distribution

How to access

Broadcast content is available through Explore, Monitor, and Alerts. Select Explore from the left-hand navigation bar and apply the Broadcast source filter to view TV and radio results.

Subscription required: Broadcast monitoring requires one of the following add-on subscriptions: Broadcast Australia and New Zealand (ANZ customers), or Broadcast Australia and New Zealand or Broadcast Global (rest of world customers). Contact your Meltwater Account Team if you are unsure whether Broadcast is included in your plan.

Key Concepts

Broadcast Monitoring

An add-on feature that includes ANZ television and radio content in your Meltwater searches. Broadcast results include the original audio or video segment, a searchable transcript, and metrics such as Reach, Sentiment, and AVE. Content is accessible in Explore and Monitor.

Broadcast Transcript

A searchable text version of a broadcast segment, generated automatically from the audio content. Transcripts are available directly in the media player and can be used to locate specific moments within a segment, set clip points, and download as a PDF file.

Broadcast Clip

A defined segment of a broadcast recording you create by setting a start and end point in the media player. Once created, a clip can be previewed, shared, or downloaded. Use Previous and Next controls in the player to extend a clip range by up to 3 additional minutes.

Custom Category for Broadcast

A saved Boolean filter in Explore that targets specific broadcast stations or networks using the sourcename operator. Apply a Custom Category to any search to focus results on the stations you care about. Station names must match the exact naming convention in Meltwater’s ANZ Broadcast List.

Source Type Filter

A filter in Explore that limits results by content type. Selecting Broadcast from the Source Type filter shows only TV, radio, and podcast content. Results default to the last 7 days; adjust the date range using the date picker in the upper-right corner.

Ad Detection

A real-time technology that identifies commercial advertisements in ANZ TV broadcast content. Use it to exclude ads from your results so only editorial coverage appears, or to include only ads to monitor brand or competitor promotional activity. Ad Detection is applied using a Custom Category with the Boolean operator promotional:true.

Broadcast Reach

The estimated audience size for a broadcast segment. Television reach data is sourced from OzTAM and RegionalTAM, enhanced using Meltwater’s AI and statistical modelling. Radio reach data combines GfK, Nielsen, and OzTAM datasets with Meltwater’s proprietary calculations.

Historical Broadcast Data

The broadcast content available in Meltwater before your current subscription period. For customers who joined from March 2025, historical ANZ broadcast content is available from April 1, 2025 onward and interactive clips are available from your subscription start date. For customers who joined before March 2025, historical TVEyes content remains available and coverage may extend back to 2018 depending on the source.
