Meltwater Community is a community for communication (PR, comms and marketing) professionals where customers can connect, learn, and inspire each other. To take these relationships to the next level, mCommunity is launching local user groups called mCommunity Chapters. These local user-groups provide educational resources and will host IRL (in real life) meetups for communications professionals in the same area. The goal is to build a knowledge base about all things PR, comms, and marketing while creating a supportive network. Who can participate in mCommunity Chapters? The program is open to all Meltwater customers and their peers in PR, comms, and marketing. Customers can invite friends in the industry to join the meetups, providing an opportunity to share actionable strategies and advice. Why attend an in-person meetup?In-person connections are still the most powerful way to connect. By discussing challenges, sharing opportunities, and celebrating wins, participants can strengthen t
The best product marketing campaigns don’t come from creativity alone or data alone. They come from combining instinct, cultural awareness, and a deep understanding of your audience. Great marketing isn’t about choosing between gut feeling and analytics. It’s about knowing when each should lead. And yet: too many teams swing to extremes, either chasing what “feels cool” or over-validating ideas before they have a chance to grow. Neither works. Campaigns that actually drive results start with a strong point of view, then use data to refine and validate it, not replace it. This post breaks down how to balance all three so your campaigns are not just safe or trendy, but effective. Start with instinct, then validate itEvery strong campaign starts with a point of view. A tension. A feeling. Maybe you can sense that your audience is tired of hyper-polished messaging, or that they crave transparency. Maybe you feel that your product deserves a little irreverence in an industry that takes its
In the age of AI, mass layoffs, and portfolio careers—how do we provide mentorship and support to the next generation of marketers and leaders? The workforce has changed faster than our approach to mentorship. So, if we want to support the next generation, we need to stop giving career-path advice and start teaching adaptability, thinking, and resilience. Traditional guidance—pick a path, climb the ladder, follow the plan—no longer reflects reality. Careers today are fluid, uncertain, and constantly evolving. Mentorship needs to reflect that shift. I’ve been to my fair share of conferences and have had the chance to talk with recent grads and young women stepping into their first roles. There’s a real sense of responsibility in those conversations—the pressure to offer something well-meaning and genuinely useful. Here are five pieces of advice that actually helps early-career professionals navigate what comes next. 1. Don’t chase the “perfect path”, build adaptabilityFor decades, car
So, you’ve got Meltwater. You’re pulling sentiment reports, tracking brand buzz, maybe even dabbling in the art of a boolean query. But here’s the thing: having access to a tool isn’t the same as actually using it well, or helping your team do the same. Are you gatekeeping the tool or sharing the wisdom? Having access to any tool, Meltwater included, means nothing if no one else knows how to use it. I’m fortunate to be at a marketing agency, Quantious, that promotes a culture of innovation and ensures cross-training for every vertical. If your team members don’t know what Meltwater is or how to leverage it, you have some work to do. Let’s fix that. Here’s how to turn your tools from a mystery into muscle memory for everyone, not just for you. 1. Document your processesKnowing how to use a tool like Meltwater is only half the battle. Ensuring consistency and making sure your processes are repeatable is where the real magic happens. Has anyone ever asked you, “How did you pull that?” and
Today marks a milestone — we've launched Earning Your Seat, the first Meltwater-branded podcast available globally on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. This isn't your typical podcast. This isn't a bunch of talking heads trading opinions. Earning Your Seat is hosted by three people — two communications leaders and one Data-Driven Communications Coach — who set out to interview industry experts and learn alongside you. We went looking for real tips and tricks. Techniques that actually move needles. The stuff that helps you earn and keep a seat at the table. But here's what makes this 11-week series truly different: you're going to witness three transformations unfold. Each of your co-hosts went on a real journey:Stephanie Lerdall (Head of Corporate Communications, Morningstar) unlocked new leadership skills and learned how to lead a global team with greater confidence. Her DDC Maturity score went from 45 to 58. Genevieve Brammall (Head of PR, News Corp Australia) turned instinct into a
You can lead a team to data, but you can’t make them listen… at least, not without a little strategy. You can share all the data you want, but chances are, you’re not making the most of it. I understand. When you’re bombarded with numbers and ROI calculations, it’s hard to decipher what this information means, let alone use that information to inform and update your strategy. With social listening, for example, it’s likely that a team only sees hashtags and sentiment scores. The data is important, but the underlying meaning is often overlooked. Social listening is so much more than what’s at the surface. It’s how the world is talking about you, your competitors, your industry, and your future. Be honest: Is your team effectively transforming your strategy, using the insights you have? How do your colleagues view social listening? Do they see it as “just a cool tool for marketing”? Or, are they able to connect the dots, refine strategy, and maximize their impact? If it’s not the latt

Trying to reach Gen Z and Alpha in 2025? You won’t get far unless you start listening to the digital-first generation. If you don’t know what “sigma” means, or you’ve never heard of BeReal, you’re still in luck. I’m a digital native myself, and today, I’m sharing everything you need to know to keep your edge with Gen Z and Alpha. Understanding Gen Z and Alpha isn’t just part of my job; it’s second nature. Gen Z and Alpha expect brands to meet them where they are, engage authentically, and reflect their values. Flashy ads won’t cut it—relevance requires intention, originality, and community. For marketers, staying “cool” in their eyes means moving past what’s traditional and stepping into their world and earning their trust. If you’ve ever accurately explained the difference between an in-feed post and a story to a relative, this post may not be for you. If you recognized Seal in this year’s Mountain Dew Super Bowl ad, it’s not too late for you. Here’s how to stay cool and connected wit

Marketing and PR professionals know well that in order to be successful in our industry, staying updated is a non-negotiable. Whether it’s devouring industry news, taking an online course, or keeping in touch with your past and present clients, staying informed is key. I personally spend hours reading email newsletters from my favorite outlets, listening to podcasts on the subway, and scrolling on social media (It’s okay to doomscroll for four hours on TikTok if it’s for research… right?)When my team at Quantious first started using Meltwater, we focused on how it could empower our clients. It wasn’t until months later that we realized the platform could transform how we kept up with industry trends, saving us countless hours of manual research. Enter the Quantious “Weekly Tech Roundup”—our curated compilation of the most important developments in AI, AR, VR, robotics, and more. This compilation has a vast audience, and is geared towards industry leaders in tech, current clients, and o
In mid-November, organic carrots at several major stores across the United States were linked to an E. coli outbreak. Also, that week, Delta Airlines said it would start serving Shake Shack cheeseburgers on certain flights from Boston. Consumers reacted to both topics, with concerns and questions over the carrot recall and criticism on social media over Delta’s decision to serve reheated cheeseburgers. While both the carrot recall and Delta Airlines received a significant number of mentions, both finished far behind the number of Taylor Swift mentions over that same time period. This may seem like an irrelevant comparison, and if we were benchmarking competitors or calculating share of voice from a marketing perspective, it probably would be. However, comparison search in Meltwater can also be a valuable tool when it comes to understanding the true scope of a PR moment or crisis. Today, I’m going to show you why I keep a Taylor Swift search in my library of Explore searches, and how i
Hello! I’m Will, and I’m happy to be added to mCommunity’s #ExpertsWithInsights lineup. For a long time, I was a television news producer at several local stations across the country. I received several local, regional and national awards for the more than 5,000 newscasts I produced during that part of my career. With big changes happening in the media over the past few years, I made the move into communications and haven’t looked back.Everyday is still a learning process (which job isn't?), but it is a process made easier through the use of Meltwater. I am able to use many of the skills I have acquired watching, analyzing and reporting on trends in new and exciting ways. My background in journalism and news production has greatly shaped my approach to PR and communications. I aim to build trusting relationships with stakeholders and media outlets, and I have a proven track record of generating new business and crisis management focusing on reputation management and consumer outreach. Hello! I’m Pia Mitchell, Marketing Producer at Quantious. I have a background in both marketing and public relations, and specialize in digital marketing and branding. My career spans everything from digital campaigns to experiential activations, and I approach everything I do with creativity and precision. I’m passionate about branding, and that goes hand-in-hand with copywriting and project management. At Quantious, I’ve crafted copy for campaigns you’ve likely seen out in the wild, spearheaded our internal PR efforts, and leveraged Meltwater for some incredible trend research, social listening, and competitive analysis. And that’s only the beginning. I previously worked for a PR agency in the luxury fashion space, where I secured placements in top-tier magazines, coordinated campaign strategies, and handled influencer partnerships. I thrive at the intersection of tech and luxury brands, and spend far too much time analyzing how tech is infiltrating–no, redefining–every industry fro
Being a young professional is daunting in and of itself, but when you’re also the only communication professional at your organization, it can feel like a heavy bag to carry. Follies ultimately fall solely in your hands, and I often find myself obsessing over every little detail at any time of the day. I struggle to force work out of my mind during off hours and vacations, I sometimes find it hard to sleep as I lay awake worrying about upcoming projects, and the list could go on and on. The moral of the story is I’m not perfect, and being young in the communication field is a little (or a lot) anxiety-inducing, especially when you have others looking to you for the answers. It’s challenging, and at many times, a lonely space to live in. So, what do you do when you may have little to no mentorship, or a small network of connections, and are in desperate need of 10 years of experience in five years or less? Be Realistic I’d prefer my daydreams over reality any day but that’s not reall

Hey there, #FriendsWithInsights! You might have noticed that this channel currently has far fewer #Experts than you’re probably accustomed to seeing pinned to the top of the page. To assist navigating our back catalog of #ExpertsWithInsights content, we’ve started this fresh new #ExpertsWithInsights channel, and renamed the old one: #ExpertsWithInsights (2023) channel. What does it mean?Since the kickoff of mCommunity’s #ExpertsWithInsights program, we’ve featured 13 different blog series from the PR, Communications, and Marketing experts here in mCommunity! 🤩This is obviously super exciting, but with such a high volume of stickied posts at the top of the page, we noticed that navigation was starting to get a little overwhelming. To help simplify the process, we’ve started this new channel, where’ll continue to share new #Experts content every Monday as we go forward into 2024 🚀 This change will help ensure that our new voices don’t get lost, and also that you’re still able to easil
If you’re here, I’m guessing you’re either considering influencer marketing for your brand or you’re interested in learning more about leveraging influencers to meet your marketing objectives.Either way, you’ve come to the right place! By the end of this article, you’ll be able to identify the perfect influencers that suit your brand, partner with those influencers to yield desired results, and create viral content together. What is (or isn’t) Influencer Marketing?Let’s begin by defining exactly what we mean when we talk about influencers. Influencer marketing is often described as brands partnering with popular figures like celebrities and bloggers with a large following for brand exposure, but the true meaning is much broader. While that definition is not totally incorrect, the most basic definition of influencer is simply someone who can influence others. I prefer to think of influencer marketing as a form of integrated marketing that leverages individuals with a significant social
Meet Gloria Hello there! I'm Gloria Imevbore and I’m mCommunity’s #ExpertWithInsights for January. I’m excited to spend this month talking about brand strategy and influencer marketing with you all. I have spent the past seven years in Marketing and Communications, and I’m currently the Head of Community Management & PR at Interswitch Group. I am passionate about creating strong brand identities and building communities around them, as well as acting as a liaison between the brand and its audience. Determining levels of crisis severity The Environmental Charter School (ECS), is dedicated to maintaining safe and healthy schools that promote the well-being of its inhabitants and fosters a unique learning environment for all students. There’s a lot of background work that contributes to sustaining a safe space, but like many schools, our ECS community plays an important role. Through multi-departmental collaboration, the district has a variety of tools for Crisis Monitoring and Management, and proper communication is key. Oftentimes, I partner with the student services and academic teams to identify the need, learn about next steps, and communicate with families in a timely manner. While there are several crises that can occur in and around schools, it is critical to understand that they vary in levels of severity and can include personal student events that may have little to no impact on their peers but are of high stakes for that individual. When a crisis of any size does occur,
