Welcome to Boolean BTS, the new mCommunity video series that takes you behind the scenes of how Meltwater uses Meltwater to craft compelling narratives for our blog and social media campaigns.

You may recall our text post of this same content: Boolean BTS: The Top Emojis of 2023. This video covers the same steps in a more visual format to show you how to:

  • Create boolean searches in Explore using emoji operators
  • Generate a Share of Voice comparison using saved searches

Want to reproduce the results from the Meltwater Blog: The Top Emojis of 2023? Follow the steps in the video and use this toolkit!

  • In the video (and the original text post), I mentioned using “angry” or “afraid” emojis in searches to assist in crisis management - what’s another use case for emojis in Explore?

Another potential use case for emojis is perhaps during sporting events for schools and mascots? I know Notre Dame often uses the shamrock emoji, Ohio State University uses the buckeye emoji, etc.

One might be interested in searching the rainbow flag (🏳️‍🌈 ) to find positive sentiments about the LGBTQIA+ community and/or LGBTQIA+ affirming posts in relation to a specific entity or person.

That’s a really good point. Many groups have symbols that could be used in search!
