A Growing Trend: The New Reality of Sustainable Urban Logistics

Working in the logistics real estate industry, I wanted to explore how the sustainable urban logistics trend is evolving across Europe.

Over the past year, the topic has clearly gained momentum, driven by growing delivery expectations and increasing pressure on cities. But what makes it interesting is how the conversation around growth is changing.

To better understand this shift, I structured the report around three key areas:

  • A big-picture view of how urban logistics and sustainability are reshaping the real estate landscape across Europe

  • A look at LinkedIn conversations to understand how industry professionals are reacting to these changes

  • A competitive view of key players, their visibility and how they are positioning themselves

So, what did I learn?

While interest is rising, the tone is becoming more cautious. The conversation is focusing more on real challenges such as emissions, urban mobility and how to make it all work in practice.

At the same time, no single player owns the conversation yet.

Curious to hear your thoughts😊

Thank you so much, really appreciate it! I learned a lot through the process, especially how much nuance a trend can have as it evolves.

Wow @Rosalbina Anchante this is such a well thought out and beautifully put together report! I love that you included the visibility over time widget, I don’t see this included as often as some of the others but is such a great tool!

I wonder if we’ll see a change in tone from cautious to more in favor and vocally supportive as the conversation continues to grow in scale?

That’s a great question. The data suggests we’re not quite there yet. While the trend is clearly growing, sentiment has become a bit more neutral over time.

It feels like the topic is moving from vision to execution. Last year there was a lot of enthusiasm and high expectations, but now we’re entering a phase where the challenges are more visible and tangible, such as regulation, emissions and how to make it work operationally.

I do think sentiment could become more positive again, but probably once the industry builds more experience and the solutions being implemented continue to demonstrate their efficiency at scale.

@Rosalbina Anchante this is interesting because it feels like the conversation is growing up a bit towards less hype, more “ok but how do we actually make this work.”

The fact that no one owns the narrative yet is kind of the opportunity IMO. Feels like whoever can make sustainability actually tangible (not just talked about) could really stand out here.

Also curious if you’re seeing differences market to market—feels like this would play out very differently in the Europe vs. US?
