Getting better insights starts with building smarter searches. In this week’s Insights unBoxed, we’re taking a deeper dive into some of Meltwater’s most powerful Boolean techniques — the same ones our internal experts use to cut through noise and find the stories that matter most.

🎥 Watch the video:

Here are a few of my favorite takeaways:

  • Use title-specific searches to find headline coverage:
    • title:"Warby Parker" — filters for major stories and leadership mentions, without the fluff.
  • Clean up your data by removing irrelevant accounts:
    • NOT from:"grok" or AND (followers < 1000 AND socialType:twitter) — perfect for removing spam or low-follower bots.
  • Add context with proximity and frequency operators:
    • "Warby Parker"{2} ensures your brand is mentioned more than once.
    • "Warby Parker" NEAR/5 quality connects the dots between mentions and meaning.
  • Check if Meltwater crawls a specific site:
    • site:"nytimes.com" — simple and powerful.
  • Use visual operators for scene-based searches:
    • Want to find photos featuring sunglasses at the beach? Try:
    • imageScene:beach AND imageObject:sunglasses

These tricks help you surface sharper, more relevant insights in Explore. Whether you’re tracking a brand story, auditing coverage, or analyzing a trend, a stronger Boolean gets you there faster.

👉 Try one of these techniques today and share your favorite Boolean operators below — what’s helped you uncover better stories?
