When searching across online news or social media, targeting your search to content from a specific journalist or social media account can help to get the results you're looking for, faster!

 

For this, we use a Boolean operator:
 

 


Online News

Use of the Author search Boolean across online news will refine the articles based on their journalist.

 

When searching for a journalist be sure to include the full name as it is displayed on their publications. For example, Author:"Alexis Carey"

 

Article results will also display the journalist's name next to the publication name on each item within your results.

 

Tip: When searching for articles published from a specific journalist, if you also utilize the Influencer Meltwater tool you can toggle to the journalists contact card to reach out to them directly via the Contacts tab. Please see an example below:

X (formerly Twitter)

 

When refining your social media search for a X posters, note that you'll need to use the exact case-sensitive handle of the X user. If there are authors with the same name across other social channels you can refine to only X results by adding the URL link for X to the search string.

 

Example:

http://www.twitter.com/JohnDoe

 

Display name: John Doe
Handle: JohnDoe

 

Using the following Author search:

 

author:"JohnDoe" OR handle:"JohnDoe" AND metaData.source.socialOriginType:"twitter"

Facebook

 

When refining your social media search for a specific Facebook Page, note that you'll need to use the exact name of the Facebook Page.

 

Example:

https://www.facebook.com/travelandleisure/

 

Display name: Travel + Leisure

Handle: TravelandLeisure

 

Using the following Author search:

 

Author:"Travel + Leisure"

If there are other social profiles coming up, you can further refine the search by identifying the Facebook Page's ID number by following the steps outlined here and utilize a URL boolean operator.

Instagram

 

When refining your social media search for a specific Instagram page, you will first need to connect your Business Profile page under your Social Connections. Please note that we are unable to monitor a profile retrospectively, so we recommend adding any pages that may be of value in the future as well proactively.

 

  1. Select Settings

  2. Go to Social Connections

  3. Next to your authenticated Instagram profile, select the Ellipses

  4. Select Manage Competitors. Any Business Profile can be added, it doesn't have a requirement to be a competitors profile.

  5. Enter the name of the Business Profile and select it from the dropdown list. If the profile doesn't load, please check if it is a Business Profile.

  6. Select Ok to save

Within your search, note that you can use either exact case-sensitive handle or display name of the Instagram business profile.

 

Example:

https://www.instagram.com/travelandleisure

 

Display name: Travel + Leisure
Handle: TravelandLeisure

 

Using the following Author search:

 

Author:"Travel + Leisure" or Author:"travelandleisure"

If there are other social profiles coming up, you can further refine the search by identifying the Instagram Page's ID number via websites such ashttps://codeofaninja.com/tools/find-instagram-user-id and utilise a MetaData boolean operator.

YouTube

 

When refining your social media search for a specific YouTube user, note that you'll need to use the exact name of the YouTube user.

 

Example:

Celeste Barber's YouTube Page

 

Display name: Celeste Barber

 

Using the following Author search:

 

Author:"Celeste Barber"

Other Social Channels

To filter only specific forums, review sites or blogs, we recommend using a URL boolean operator along with
the Author:" ".

 

The author will be the name of the poster as displayed on the forum or review site.

 

Review Site example - www.tripadvisor.com

 

Example search url:"www.tripadvisor.com/*"

Example search with author url:"www.tripadvisor.com/*" and author:"Stuart L"

 

Forum example - www.wcreplays.com
