Hello! I’m Will, and I’m happy to be added to mCommunity’s #ExpertsWithInsights lineup.


For a long time, I was a television news producer at several local stations across the country. I received several local, regional and national awards for the more than 5,000 newscasts I produced during that part of my career. With big changes happening in the media over the past few years, I made the move into communications and haven’t looked back.


Everyday is still a learning process (which job isn't?), but it is a process made easier through the use of Meltwater. I am able to use many of the skills I have acquired watching, analyzing and reporting on trends in new and exciting ways. My background in journalism and news production has greatly shaped my approach to PR and communications. I aim to build trusting relationships with stakeholders and media outlets, and I have a proven track record of generating new business and crisis management focusing on reputation management and consumer outreach.

 

When I'm not doing research I like cooking and finding new trails new to explore.

 

I’m excited to dive into how my team uses Meltwater, particularly in the world of crisis communications and issues management. Look for my first post right here next week.

Thanks for sharing! What are some of your favorite things to cook? And favorite trails to check out? 

Thanks for asking ​@Maria Dehne! When it comes to cooking, pretty much anything with 5 star reviews on the NYT Cooking app is going to get tried out. There’s also several great spice shops in Denver so any new spice I discover also leads to finding new recipes. I’ve been following a big trend this year and using Ube (purple sweet potato). I do a lot more cooking than baking but I did try out an Ube cheesecake this year that got rave reviews. I also love experimenting with either unique or old recipes and some gifts going out during the holidays will include a version of George Washington’s Cherry Bounce and mugolio (a pinecone syrup with green pinecone I foraged earlier this year.)  As for the hikes, I’ve only made my way to the top of a few 14ers (14,000 foot mountains here in Colorado) but I love to get out and explore this state and have done the same in the other states I lived in over my career. Since you are in the Beef industry, what is your favorite dish with Beef?

Good question ​@kelly.bebenek! Guess it depends on the meal and would love to see what others have to share on that or favorite foods in general. Also I’m tracking a new viral recipe for a Turkish salad that is getting a lot of attention online and might have to try that one out myself soon. For tacos, I love birria tacos and we have several good places in Denver. Also love to do birria ramen this time of year when the weather turns colder. Beef Bourguignon is such a classic and a great dish to make over a few hours on a cold day. But in many ways you just can’t beat a good burger and growing up in L.A., I enjoy In-N-Out. It’s just a great reminder and taste of home since they now have locations in Colorado. Curious to hear from others about their favorite burger or burger places. I will say I used Meltwater for more than a year now to track the Oklahoma Onion burger trend. If you haven’t had one, try to find a place near you where you can.

So many of the enhancements in Meltwater this year have really improved the level and detail of my reporting on topics. I’m putting a lot of those enhancements to the test for year-end reporting right now and I’ll share what I learn in several upcoming reports. The pre-built ‘topic’ searches are so helpful and I’m using them with the AI assistant to refine several reports when it comes to reporting on the year and trying to discover 2025 trends.
