Education Roundtable: When Issues Become Polarizing, How Do You Respond?

About this event

In this month’s Education Roundtable, we’re exploring a challenge many education communicators are increasingly facing: how to respond when issues on campus quickly become polarizing.

From policy debates and community concerns to student activism and public scrutiny, education institutions often find themselves at the center of conversations that can quickly divide audiences. Communicating in these moments requires careful judgment—balancing transparency, institutional values, and the needs of diverse stakeholders. This discussion will explore how education teams are preparing for and responding to polarizing issues while maintaining trust across their communities.

This session is not a webinar. It’s an open, peer-led conversation created for education communications, PR, marketing, and public affairs professionals who want a space to share experiences, compare approaches, and learn from peers navigating similar challenges.

We’ll Discuss:

  • How do you decide when an issue requires a public response from the institution?

  • What messaging approaches help reduce tension rather than escalate it?

  • How do communications teams align leadership, legal, and campus stakeholders during polarizing moments?

  • What role does monitoring play in understanding how issues are evolving online and in the media?

  • How do you maintain institutional voice and credibility when audiences are deeply divided?

This roundtable is part of Meltwater’s Industry Circles program—client-only spaces inside mCommunity where professionals in similar sectors connect, collaborate, and learn how others are using Meltwater to solve real-world challenges in their day-to-day roles.

This session has limited availability, and registration will close once all 35 seats have been filled.
