Creating and editing Boolean searches are essential to getting the most value from Meltwater.  There are a few users that set up a search when they first get access and seldom revisit them, potentially overlooking a wealth of valuable insights.

To bridge this gap, we've developed a series of resources designed to demystify Boolean searches, making it easier for you to harness our platform's full potential.

  • The Boolean Searches Page is located under the Product Libraryyielding the results you were hoping for? Don’t sweat it Tab.

Tip: Subscribe to the Boolean Searches Page so you are notified when new resources are added.

Editing and Updating a Boolean Search String

Is your Explore search not giving you the results you were hoping for? Don’t sweat! Patience is key, and your search will get there with some editing.

It is rare to create a perfect search on the first try. When creating and editing your Boolean searches, it is helpful to consider additional keywords to expand your search results or common themes creating noise that would be better to exclude.

How to Edit a Boolean String

This week we’ve update the above Help Center Article with a how-to video.

Happy learning!

I just had a discussion with visitors to my office this week who also uses Meltwater. They said they rarely used Boolean searches for a variety of reasons, among them, not understanding the language or structure for building them. I pointed them toward the library of terms and all the Academy courses that are available. I struggled with these myself and love the point that it is rare to build the best search on the first try. Thanks for the new video! I think I’ll be putting some of the tips to use as soon as this afternoon.

@Will Swope I totally understand the struggle! I had a really tough time the first few weeks trying to understand the Boolean searches and how to build queries effectively. TBH, I still reference the library  but feel wayyyy more comfortable and am so impressed by all you can do!

@Steph Rizzo Totally agree and the library is still a great source for some tools you don’t need too often, but sometimes are the key to creating the right search. I always like it when I’m able to use a new operator and learn a little more about Boolean. Experience really is the best way to learn that language.

The training guide linked is so handy, thank you!

I’m comfortable with Boolean in general but I’m a regular visitor to the MW Boolean Library and it’s a permanent feature in my Bookmarks Bar

I would like to think i am boolean expert (of course the magical Boolean library always helps), it was not an easy journey but trial and error is the way with queries. Thanks for this great articles
