Hi,

My company uses the Meltwater newsletter feed for various markets. As the news cycle is usually dense in our industry (aviation), we can have up to four newsletters spaced over 24 hours, each distributed twice a day.

I'm struggling to understand the how the different feeds overlap, eg. 0000 and 0600, 0900 and 1500, 1200 and 1800 and 2100 and 0300.

I guess it's basic math but my boss is getting irritated that I can't grasp the overlap.

Can you help? Please?

Hi there! I need a little more detail to help. When your boss says “overlap” what does that mean?

Some info that might help:

  • Each Automated Newsletter pulls new articles that Meltwater has caught in your searches since the last time the Newsletter was sent
    • So the 0600 NL would include any new stories that Meltwater has caught since the 0000 one was sent.
    • And the 1500 NL would include any news that Meltwater has caught since the 0900 one was sent

Hi Maricela, thank you for replying. So one of our automated newsletters pulls articles, press releases, posts etc in Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Because there’s so much content, it’s actually split into four newsletters with sampling times at 0000 + 0600;  0900 +1500; 1200 + 1800; and 2100 + 0300.

I suppose my first question is this: is every newsletter supposed to cover the preceding 12 hours? Or not? Eg. the 0000NL goes back to 12.30pm the previous day, yet the 0600NL only goes back to 12.02am (ie 6 hours).

Secondly, the overlap … eg. the 1200NL would presumably catch stories that were also caught by the 1500NL?

I’m trying to work this out as I type it … but struggling with the concept. Thank you for your help.

Paul

Hi Paul - Let’s hop on a call if that’s okay with you? We can explain how automated NL scheduling works in more detail. But basically, if you have four different Newsletters, sent twice a day, each newsletter is very separate from each other they are not connected at all. They are totally independent of each other in terms of scheduling and what content is brought in. Each Newsletter pulls in news since the last time that specific NL was sent.
