Create a clipping sheet for distribution

I have been asked to create and distribute a weekly electronic “clipping sheet” via email.

I found I could easily create one by going to “Monitor,” selecting the articles I want to include in the clipping sheet, then click the “Share” icon to create the email.

Unfortunately, we have several different categories of media we monitor with separate searches. If I select something in one category the selection isn’t maintained when I go to another category to make a selection. Essentially, I would have to create an email for each category with items I want to include in the clipping sheet.

I would love to know if there is a better way to do this so I don’t have to spam our leadership with multiple emails.

Hello! The easiest workaround I’ve found is using the Tags function. You can create Tags to suit any topic or category. For instance, I work in Comms at a university and have about 15 different stakeholders, which are all linked to my one portfolio (Mission). I created a Tag for each stakeholder, as well as my particular portfolio name (Mission). Whenever an article comes up in our alerts (either through Explore or Monitor) I simply tag that article (and any duplicates). Then, you can create individual, curated newsletters with the Meltwater Newsletter function, and set it up to pull in content based on specific tags. I did this for one of my colleagues who looks after our Humanities courses, by setting up a new Newsletter in Meltwater that only pulled in her specific tags - all she has to do is tag her earned media hits every morning, and then when she goes to do her monthly reports, she can simply curate them into a professional looking newsletter.

Creating a curated newsletter means you can pull in multiple tags, by creating multiple sections in your email that only pull in items from a specific tag.

Here is the Meltwater Help Centre article on Tags: https://help.meltwater.com/en/articles/4064573-how-to-use-tags-to-get-organized

Thanks, I have only been using Meltwater for a couple months and figured out Newsletters just after I submitted my question.

Meltwater, like most software I have used, seems to have more than one way to do certain tasks, but those other paths may be limited in what they can produce as a final product.  That’s what I ran up against earlier.  I thought I had a solution to the problem but it dead ended one step away from what I actually needed.

Hey @Mike M - I wanted to follow up here because I’m not quite clear - did you find a solution for this using Newsletters, or do you still need help? I want to make sure you’re able to get the help you need!

Jacinda:  Yes, it looks like we should be able to use the Newsletters feature for what we want to do.
