Hey, mCommunity!

Diving right into it: Compare Searches are a powerful tool and are sometimes overlooked. So what exactly is Explore’s Compare Search, and how can it benefit you?

Compare Searches can be used to effectively analyze data in a number of ways: your brand against competitors, product categories, or a product or service launch. For instance, imagine you’re a skincare brand with a sunscreen product, and you want to gauge your market share against competitors to evaluate or refine your marketing strategy.

Let’s get to it!

Part 1: Setting Up Your Base Searches

To create a Compare Search, you’ll need a minimum of two saved searches. It’s imperative that these searches use the same supporting keywords and filters to ensure a fair comparison. For example, pairing the brand with keywords like  AND (Sunscreen OR SPF OR "UV protection") is a good start. However, I want to gain deeper insights into consumer intent when researching sunscreen before purchasing. To accomplish this, I’ve toggled on a custom category to layer on this sub-topic of conversation, as seen in the screenshot below.

If you need help creating the boolean for a custom category, you can leverage the AI Search Assistant or ask our Support Team to assist you. Learn more about the AI Search Assistant.

Now that I’ve set up a base search for La Roche-Posay, I’ll ensure that the base searches for Lancome, Paula’s Choice, and Shiseido have identical filters for Language, Custom Categories, and any Location or Source Type filters.

Part 2: Creating a Compare Search

From the Explore homepage, click Compare Search, or within an existing search, click + New Search from the purple Actions button, then select Compare Search.

Select + Add Search and select a minimum of two or up to ten saved searches for your Compare Search. Adjust your desired date range, then click Update.

Within seconds, you’ll have access to pre-built widgets displaying metrics such as a Mentions Trend, Share of Voice by Source Type and Location, Sentiment Analysis, Top Keywords and more honing in on each branded search based on the consumer conversations surrounding sunscreen research and purchasing intent.

For easy sharing, you can download the individual widgets as CSV or PNG files or share the entire Compare Search using the Share Dashboard option from the purple Actions button.

Pretty efficient, right?

Are you currently utilizing the Compare Search feature? I’d love to hear how.

Have a great rest of the week, and don’t forget to wear sunscreen!
