Education Roundtable: Your Campus Just Went Viral. Now What?

In this month's Education Roundtable, we're talking about what happens when a single post, video, or news story suddenly puts your institution in the spotlight.

Whether it's a student-created video, a campus incident, a faculty comment, a policy announcement, or misinformation spreading online, colleges and universities can find themselves at the center of public attention with very little warning. When that happens, communications teams are expected to move quickly, coordinate across departments, and make decisions that protect both institutional reputation and community trust.

This discussion will focus on how education communications teams are preparing for these moments, what they've learned from past experiences, and how they're responding when conversations online move faster than traditional communications plans.

This session is not a webinar. It's an open, peer-led conversation created for education communications, PR, marketing, student affairs, and public affairs professionals who want a space to share experiences, compare approaches, and learn from peers facing similar situations.

We'll Discuss

  • How teams determine when a social media moment requires an official response
  • What the first few hours look like when a campus story starts gaining widespread attention
  • What role social listening and media monitoring play in understanding how a story is spreading
  • When institutions choose to respond publicly, and when it's better to let the conversation play out
  • What lessons institutions have learned from campus stories that unexpectedly went viral

This roundtable is part of Meltwater's Industry Circles program, client-only spaces inside mCommunity, where professionals in similar sectors connect, collaborate, and learn how others are using Meltwater to solve real-world challenges in their day-to-day roles.

This session has limited availability, and registration will close once all 35 seats have been filled.
