The Gap Between Business and Communications Education — Do You See It Too?
I truly believe that communications are the most important part of a brand, business, and/or service. Without good communication that integrates with the business and works alongside marketing, sales, finance, human resources, operations — or all departments — it's difficult to achieve influence and change behaviors.
I first heard about Data-Driven Communications in a Meltwater webinar led by
Through conversations with professors and colleagues, I started noticing that at the education level, there's a gap between business and communications. Communications are evolving, and we have more and more tools available to make informed decisions, but students aren't being taught about this evolution, or the importance of understanding and analyzing data to connect the dots.
I happened to connect with a professor at the University of Sagrado Corazón in Puerto Rico, who saw the same gap, and together we ran a one-hour workshop based entirely on DDC teachings. The students were amazed, and it confirmed for me that the gap is real.
I'm honored to serve Puerto Rico and its students from my little corner of the world, and to help shape the future of communications. Special thanks to
Do you agree there's a gap in the current communications curriculum?
